Just as your venue is a crucial element to the wedding of your dreams, so is the face behind it. For the month of March, we are so excited to feature Hunter Andrews – local boss babe and manager of The Andrews Farm! The farm has been in her family for almost 50 years and just recently started operating as an outdoor event venue under her creative direction. We hope you enjoy getting to know her as much as we enjoy working with her!
Q: Give me your best “30 second elevator pitch”. Tell us who you are!
A: The Andrews Farm located in Midland, North Carolina has been a part of the Andrews family since the 1970’s. As a third generation family farm there is an abundance of history which has evolved over the years. Originally the land was used for the sole purpose of farming wheat, soybeans, corn, cotton, and now flowers! Over time the farm evolved into something much more meaningful to our family. In the early 1990’s a cabin dating back to the late 1700’s was discovered on the property and the family decided to restore it and use it as a place to gather on weekends and holidays. As a result, the farm became a place the entire family could enjoy while having the privileges of experiencing the gifts this beautiful land offers. Some of our family members have loved the farm experience so much that they chose to move to the farm permanently building the home, a modern European inspired farmhouse, that sits on the venue ground’s today. Many joyous occasions and unforgettable memories have transpired on the Andrews farm over the past fifty years including birthday parties, oyster roasts, dove hunts and Thanksgiving dinners. After hosting many large events over the years, the Andrews family is thrilled to now be able to offer this special gem to others as a wedding and special events venue. Our hope is that every guest can be as fortunate as us and create memories that will last a lifetime and hold a special place in their hearts. We truly want to make sure that the special day you have envisioned becomes a reality. We can’t wait to have you.
Q: Why do you do what you do?
A: I love creating. The whole wedding industry is filled with talented individuals who are full of ideas. Meeting with them alone and collaborating is the best. I get to watch all of these vendors come together for one day to make a work of art. No wedding is the same; they are all different and unique. From watching all of the vendors set up all the way to the end. It is one big production that exemplifies Love! Every time a wedding ends I just can’t wait to see the next one. Seeing the faces of the friends and family is priceless!
Q: What should couples consider when choosing a venue for their day?
A: There are a lot of things to consider. Once you have talked with your significant other about your ideal day then you should start to hone in on the details. Outdoor vs indoor? Traditional vs nontraditional. What is your budget? What is most important to you, flowers, food, music, or do you just want it all? Location, as far as where most of your guests live or will be flying into. You don’t want to pick a place that is hard to get to. If the location is farther away will you be offering a shuttle for your guest? If you are picking an outdoor venue then what is the seasonal weather like and how will this affect your rentals as well as attire? How many people are you wanting to have? Will the space provide enough space for you? The list goes on and on.
Q: What to avoid on your wedding day?
A: I would avoid serving liquor for the whole event as well as shots. Just keep it to the cocktail hour and do two signature drinks. This helps you save on your budget as well as crowd control! You do not want any of your guests having one too many.
Q: What do you think we’ll see in 2021 + 2022?
A: I think that the wedding culture will change in the upcoming years. We have personally seen people booking closer to their date with less planning time available. We have also seen a reduced guest count as well as more spaced out layouts. People are also gravitating toward outdoor venues at the moment because it is more Covid friendly.
Q: What’s your favorite spot on Andrew’s Farm?!
A: The Andrews Farm has many locations to choose from for ceremony or reception. We love for couples to have creative liberty as far as picking a backdrop for their event. However, our favorite spot is the main garden. This garden is edged with natural greenery making it so that you do not have to dress it up in a tone with flowers if you do not want to. It can fit up to 170 people for ceremony and about 150 for the reception. You can also get a variety of photos from different angles which helps create depth.
Q: What design/style do you want to see on site?
A: I love seeing the couples personalities come to life at weddings. So for me I want to see a design that reflects them as well as something that helps tell their story. The more creative and out of the box, the better.
Q: Favorite song?
A: I love The Avett Brothers High Steppin’, our farm is located near Fisher road near where the Avett Brothers grew up and we typically have a corn field as a back drop.
Q: Your favorite drink?
A: Coffee in the morning. Water all day. If I am just having a casual drink then I will go for a glass of red wine, but if it is a wild night I love a tequila seltzer with lime. Keep it simple and keep it coming! Sometimes I ask for extra water so that way I know I am staying hydrated.
Q: Your best day off is spent doing:
A: I love being outside. Any opportunity to get to be outdoors, I will take it. I would most likely be on a trail that I found on All Trails with my dog River and an adventure buddy. After a long hike I love making a campfire, cooking some food over it and listening to music! The next vacation I take will be to The Grand Canyon.
We can’t wait to collaborate with Hunter and The Andrews Farm on some of our upcoming weddings! Take a look at the venue’s Instagram and website for information about booking and plenty more!
