An expert mixologist by trade and busy mama/creative (check out some of her photography work below!) behind-the-scenes, Rachel Hopkins is a force to be reckoned with! Alongside her husband, she owns and operates Black Moth Bars – an experiential mobile bar service that can be customized for any event. Get to know HER favorite drink and more below!
Q: Give me your best “30 second elevator pitch”. Tell us who you are!
A: We push the boundaries of what is expected from a typical “event-bar service”.
Q: Why should couples consider a mobile bar?
A: There are a few reasons I think people should and do end up going with a mobile bar vs. their caterer.
Q: What to avoid when making bar selections?
A: TOO MANY OPTIONS! When selecting menu options, there should never be more than 2 types of any offering IMO. 2 beers, 2 wines, 2 signature cocktails…There’s actually some psychology behind this. People start to get overwhelmed when presented with more too many choices! It holds up the line, the client has tons of leftover alcohol (not necessarily a bad thing haha) Guests are just excited to be there and celebrating. Don’t feel like MORE is better.
Q: What do you think we’ll see in 2021 + 2022?
A: Hoping the backyard trend stays! I’ve also been loving the more intimate crowds of 100 or less.
Q: Is there anything you wish you knew when starting your own business or would do differently now?
A: The wedding industry was super new to me when I was getting started and I kinda felt that I had to conform to the styles that were popular and not necessarily the style that I enjoyed. I wish I could go back and give myself a lil kick in the butt for feeling like that (even if it was just for a second). I think staying true to your style/brand/vision is important in life AND business and now I know I’d rather stand out than fit in!
Q: How can people who aren’t planning an event still enjoy BMB?
A: Visit us at Camp North End Friday-Sunday!
Q: Favorite alcoholic drink?
A: Oooo Fernet is my favorite for a slow sipper. My favorite spring/summer drink (kind of a guilty pleasure) is probably a glass of rose` with some la Croix in it! hahaha
Q: Favorite non-alcoholic drink?
A: Kombucha or sparkling water!
Q: Favorite music artist?
A: Right now, I’ve been listening to Orville Peck non-stop!
Q: Something no one knows about you?
A: I have a tattoo of a weiner dog on my knee for absolutely no reason.
Q: Your best day off is spent doing:
A: Hanging out in the yard, planting flowers, going on a walk…anything outside!
We love working with Rachel any chance we get and know you will too! Show BMB’s Instagram and website some love, won’t you?
