How We Met
We met through mutual friends on a pontoon boat on Lake Norman! One of my co-workers invited me on their boat day with her college friends from Clemson. I didn’t know anyone apart from her and one of other co-worker. I almost didn’t go, but I’m so glad that I did!
What Excites us about Marriage
So much! But, generally speaking, we’re most excited to continue building a life together that we both love and sharing the journey with our friends and families.
Our Design Inspo
Honestly, previous Honey + Thyme weddings! We saw the Mamma Mia blog post and fell in love with the outdoor aesthetic and unique venue location. I love vibrant colors and design elements that are classic with a modern twist. We wanted the design of our backyard lake wedding to highlight the natural setting and showcase the incredible sunset views that we love there. H+T put together a color palette and design that did all of that and more!
(Stationery + Signage) We had no idea what the expect with the stationary process! We didn’t know what we wanted until I saw it while searching for ideas on Instagram. We found an invite that Typo Boutique had done years ago and we reached out to ask if we could work together to create that design for our day!
(Fashion + Beauty) I LOVED my wedding dress so much! I felt that it fit our design style, which was “classic with a modern twist.” Hunter chose a black suit because it felt timeless. We actually had the groomsmen purchase black suits from H&M because it ended up being a more affordable option than some of the rental places! For the bridesmaids, I felt pretty bad asking them to wear orange and yellow because they can be hard colors to pull off! I decided to go the mix-matched route for dresses because it felt like a more relaxed look to me. I might be biased, but I think my bridesmaids have great style and I wanted them to pick a dress that they felt fit their style and personality! Corny to say, but it made me so happy to see how their individual styles blended together so beautifully because that’s how it feels when we’re all together.
(Photography) Jennifer Austin is SO good and talented! I found her previous work through Honey + Thyme and I just fell in love with her style..
(Officiant) – We interviewed a few Officiants and ended up clicking with Julie! She felt like a friend at the end of the process, which made everything feel a lot more natural while standing on the alter.
(Catering) Eat Chef 360 – We decided to do stations because we wanted less formality around the reception. It was important to us that the fun and dancing started as soon as possible! The station setup allowed us to blend the dinner & dancing. Some guests chose to start dancing and eat later, while others opted for food first. We were glad to have that flexibility for guests.
(Florals) Laurel Creek is amazing! We wanted a wildflower floral design with vibrant colors. My instagram inspo account was Iris & Fig based in Seattle. It ended up that Laurel Creek and Iris & Fig collaborate and share floral designs! Kendra has great vision and I know she worked so closely with H+T throughout the entire planning process.
Most Important Element to Us
It’s hard to choose just one! The venue was super important because we wanted to get married in a place that was special to both of us. It made sharing our wedding day with family and friends even more meaningful. But, aside from the venue, we both wanted an awesome dance floor underneath twinkle lights! And H+T delivered.
Best Wedding Investment
Honey + Thyme! They truly pulled off the most incredible wedding weekend. We’re so glad that we booked them for the whole weekend because their team was with us Thursday – Sunday to handle every detail so that we didn’t have to lift a finger! From start to finish, they guided us through the planning process each step of the way and took the stress off of us. All of our favorite elements that we invested in – i.e. green marble dance floor, mis-matched plates, Wandering Social Photo Booth – would not have crossed our minds without H+T!
Favorite Moments
The whole thing! Everything from the ceremony to the reception was even better than we could have imagined. If we had to pick a top moment, it would be when the band let us up on the stage to sing. It was so much fun to look out on the dance floor and see our friends and family having a great time. In general, we just loved how H+T curated an event that felt like “us” and all we had to do was show up, relax, and have an amazing time!
(Entertainment) – The Parks Brothers knocked it out of the park! We put in a LOT of time and effort searching for bands that fit our music style. It was important to us that our wedding band have a good mix of genres and lots of energy! Hunter also writes songs for fun, so we wanted to make sure that he could get up and sing a song with whatever band we picked. They were such a great fit for our wedding!
We loved incorporating Hunter’s old truck from high school. It felt perfect for a lake wedding!
Our Advice
Hire Honey + Thyme, obviously! Other than that, I’d say to prioritize decisions that allow you to showcase the things you love as a couple, or that feel special to you. We focused on picking venues, music, and colors that we both loved. We had family and friends comment that the weekend felt so much like “us” and I think that’s because we prioritized choices that highlighted our interests & personalities!
